This is an 8″ mild steel heating flow and return system we replaced during the lockdown at Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton. The old pipework had been in for approximately 40 years and was springing leaks due to corrosion.
The pipe run that was replaced was approximately 90 metres from the boiler house, across two road bridges and roofs to building 2 connections.
We had to cut the existing pipework into 6 metre lengths in order to be able to crane it to ground level. There was a gas main running parallel to the run so a conventional angle grinder was not an option for cutting the pipe. so we used an Exact pipe saw which gave no sparks and was very efficient.
The new pipework was 200mm thin wall welded stainless steel with zinc plated slip flanges which was re-installed into the existing brackets once we had refurbished them.
The pipework was then insulated to the customers specification and finished off with a Stucco Aluminium covering.
Collins Aerospace was happy that the installation was installed on time and on budget.
